NEW BOYS LEAD GLENAVON FIGHT BACK

Two Glenavon debutants bagged second half goals as the Lurgan Blues came from behind to salvage a point from Institute's visit to Mourneview Park.

Daniel Purkis, a new signing from East Belfast, and Crusaders loanee Matthew Snoddy helped wipe out 'Stute's two-goal advantage which came arguably against the run of play.

Glenavon started brightly with Purkis and another recent arrival, Dylan Davidson, having shots on goal during the opening exchanges.

However, Institute moved in front after just 13 minutes when Seamus Sharkey fouled Alex Pomeroy inside the box with Joe McCready confidently converting the subsequent spot-kick into the bottom corner.

Davidson thought he had levelled for Glenavon around ten minutes later but his volley from Sammy Clingan's cross was ruled out after he had strayed offside. Then, moments later, Greg Moorhouse sent a right-foot effort just wide from Josh Daniels' delivery.

The chances followed with Sharkey seeing a shot saved by Rory Brown, Moorhouse was off target from a Clingan free-kick, Daniel Larmour glanced a header wide and James Singleton's added time nod was turned over by defender Dean Curry.

Despite all this, Institute extended their advantage just before the hour through Alex Pomeroy after he got past Sharkey and Clingan to fire the visitors second goal past Johnny Tuffey.

Glenavon came close to pulling one back through a goalmouth scramble after Davidson curled a cross against an upright with Daniels and Larmour both seeing follow-up efforts blocked.

But, on 69 minutes, Gary Hamilton's side did reduce the gap after Purkis unleashed an emphatic volley past Brown after Caolan Marron had crossed from the right.

Then, with nine minutes remaining, the comeback was complete when Snoddy scrambled home the equaliser from point blank range after another Clingan set piece - a corner - wasn't cleared by the 'Stute defence.
