The NI Football League Academy League took a break from regular fixtures last Saturday with clubs attending a development day which offered playing opportunities alongside player education.

The development days have been built into the Academy League fixture calendar to better support players and coaches by offering learning opportunities and best practice advice.

Saturday’s programme consisted of shortened matches between teams plus a UKAD Anti-Doping workshop for over 120 players and 20+ coaches and parents.

NI Football League Development Manager, Steven Mills commented, “During the development of the Academy League we were clear we wanted to offer more than just competitive fixtures and the development day is one of the ways we are supporting our clubs and their players."

"As the next generation of Irish League players we feel it is vital for the development of these young players to be offered learning opportunities that will support their progression as footballers."

"We are only getting started but I am delighted with how the clubs have welcomed this approach and indeed their commitment to improving the environment for Youth Development."
