Newry City missed out on the chance to move to the top of the Premier Intermediate League following this defeat to Newington at Seaview.

Newington claimed the points courtesy of a Conal Burns spot-kick in each half.

His first came on 19 minutes, sending it beyond 'keeper Kieran Gordon into the bottom corner.

Newry levelled before the break, however, after Mark Patton and Ian Curran combined to knock on a Keith Johnston corner for Declan Carville to fire high into the net.

But Newington restored their advantage with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining after referee Andrew MacDonald spotted some pushing in the area, awarding a second penalty which Burns duly converted despite Gordon getting his fingertips to the ball.
