A Kym Nelson goal with less than a quarter-of-an-hour gone handed Ards victory over HW Welders at the Bangor Fuels Arena.
Later named man of the match, Nelson struck on 14 minutes to help Ards make it three wins from three at the start of the new Lough 41 Championship campaign.
The Welders battled hard to get back into the game with Charlie Dornan, just before the half-hour mark, and Michael McLellan, moments after the break, both going close.
Their hopes of salvaging something were dealt a blow with seven minutes remaining following Alan McMurtry's dismissal for a second bookable offence but they had one last chance right at the end when Brandon Nelson fired over following a goalmouth scramble.
