Ballinamallard United returned to the bottom of the table despite earning a point from this visit to Ards.

The Mallards are locked on 20 points with Carrick Rangers - who defeated Glentoran at The Oval - going into the last game of the season and, ironically, they also make the journey to east Belfast next week.

Michael McLellan opened the scoring for Ards after ten minutes when, from a Jonny Frazer ball over the top, he rounded 'keeper Richard Brush before slotting home.

But the visitors hit back just three minutes later after Ryan Curran connected with Colm McLaughlin's cross from the left to turn the ball past Sam Johnston.

Curran might have edged the Mallards in front when he cut inside early in the second half only to see his effort saved at the near post.

Then, a few minutes after that, Stephen O'Flynn came close with a free-kick.

And Harry McConkey's side had one final late chance to seal the win when, in stoppage time, Shane McGinty failed to get a strong enough connection with a half volley following a scramble in the box.
