GLENTORAN are back up to fourth in the Danske Bank Premiership following this defeat of Glenavon at The Oval.

The Lurgan Blues, on a high from their annihilation of Ballymena United at the weekend, were handed a gilt-edged opportunity on 28 minutes when referee Alan Black awarded a penalty in their favour following a Jimmy Callacher push but Guy Bates' spot-kick was saved by Elliott Morris.

Then, on 62 minutes, Ciaran Martyn found himself through on goal but again Morris was equal to the challenge, pushing the ball around an upright.

But Glentoran broke the deadlock five minutes later through Andy Waterworth when he was played through to slot the ball past Davy O'Hare.

And they doubled their lead five minutes after that courtesy of a wonderfully executed 30-yard Stephen Carson free-kick into the top corner of O'Hare's goal.

The visitors did grab a stoppage time consolation, however, when Martyn turned home a Gary Hamilton cross.
