Albert Watson (90 1)

Albert Watson roars his delight at grabbing Linfield's late winner (Picture: William Cherry/

AN Albert Watson goal in stoppage time saw Linfield maintain their two point lead at the top of the table.

The former Ballymena United man got his head to a Jamie Mulgrew cross to put the seal on what had been a frustrating afternoon for the Blues.

Linfield might have taken the lead on 23 minutes when Rory Patterson, up against his old club, fired against the crossbar when the ball fell for him on the edge of the box after Coleraine 'keeper Michael Doherty and defender Howard Beverland got into a tangle with each other.

Then, nine minutes from the break, William Murphy nodded just wide from a Patterson flick.

Chances were at a premium during the opening period of the second half with only a block on an Aaron Burns 61st minute effort coming close to breaking the deadlock.

The Bannsiders might have edged into the lead themselves on 77 minutes when Ryan McIlmoyle headed wide from a David Scullion right-sided cross.

Linfield did have the ball in the net with two minutes remaining when Patterson rose with Doherty to knock the ball onto the feet of Daryl Fordyce only for referee Mark Courtney to rule it out for a foul on the 'keeper.

But a minute into added time Watson connected with an inswinging Jamie Mulgrew corner to direct the ball beyond Doherty to secure the points for David Jeffrey's men.
