Joely Andrews opened the scoring for Glentoran
Glentoran Women defeated Romanian champions Olimpia Cluj 2-0 in Finland to conclude their Champions League campaign.

Second half goals from Joely Andrews and Chloe McCarron secured a historic victory for the Glens, who had lost their opening encounter 1-0 against Swiss champions Servette earlier this week.

The Danske Bank Women’s Premiership champions dominated the game in terms of possession and opportunities and got the stroke of luck they earned early in the second half when a cross from Andrews looped into the net.

Cluj have won all 10 Romanian league titles but were second best throughout the encounter and rarely threatened, with all the major openings coming the way of Glentoran.

Billy Clarke’s side added a well-deserved second in the closing stages through Northern Ireland international McCarron, who curled home a superb effort from the edge of the area.

The Glens will return to league action when they host Sion Swifts on Wednesday, as they trail Cliftonville by two points at the top of the standings.
