The race for the Gibson Cup will go right down to the proverbial wire following Tuesday night victories for leaders Linfield and challengers Cliftonville, but Warrenpoint Town's time in the top flight has come to an end.

Both the Reds and Blues won on the road to continue their battle at the top. Linfield maintain a one point advantage going into the final two games of the campaign after a 2-1 win away to Crusaders.

Jimmy Callacher opened the scoring for David Healy's side on 35 minutes with a powerful header from Niall Quinn's free-kick but Jordan Forsythe levelled for the Crues on the stroke of half-time. However, it fell to substitute Ethan Devine to once again bag Linfield's winner when, on 70 minutes, he drilled a low finish into the net after being teed up by Matthew Clarke.

Cliftonville travelled north to face an out of sorts Coleraine, and emerged comfortable winners in the end. Ryan Curran fired them in front from the spot midway through the first half before Joe Gormley followed up just over a quarter-of-an-hour later. Eoin Bradley did pull one back for the Bannsiders late in the game but it was too little, too late to spark a revival .

Warrenpoint Town's fate was sealed despite getting the better of Ballymena United at The Showgrounds. Scoreless for most of the game, Barry Gray's side bagged the winner through substitute Alan O'Sullivan on 83 minutes but it wasn't enough to keep them in the top flight following Portadown's scoreless draw at home to Dungannon Swifts.

The Ports look destined for a relegation play-off spot, but the draw was enough to secure a Premiership place for the Swifts for another season.

Glenavon took a step closer to making seventh place their own and with it a possible European play-off spot after Michael O'Connor's 88th minute strike earned them the points away to Carrick Rangers who themselves need just a draw from their last two outings to book their top flight spot next season.

Meanwhile, at the BetMcLean Oval, Glentoran and Larne played out a scoreless draw.
