The beginning of July always heralds the return in earnest of the annual plethora of pre-season friendlies and this weekend was no different.

Linfield held their annual Open Day at Windsor Park and invited Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren along to mark the occasion.

The Buddies raced into an early lead through Alex Greive after just two minutes before Daniel Finlayson - ironically on loan from the Saints - levelled with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock.

However Jonah Ayung restored St. Mirren's advantage eight minutes from the break to ultimately complete the scoring.

Meanwhile, at Seaview, Crusaders limbered up for Thursday's UEFA Europa Conference League trip to Gibraltar with a 5-0 victory over Comber Rec.

A Lewis Barr own goal early on kicked the scoring off, with Johnny McMurray adding a second soon after. Then, after the break, goals from Dean Ebbe, Jordan Owens and Jude Winchester saw Stephen Baxter's side run out comfortable winners.

Glentoran began their summer preparations with a 2-0 win away to Rathfriland Rangers thanks to two first half goals from last season's leading scorer Jay Donnelly and new signing Ally Roy.

Elsewhere, HW Welders welcomed Belfast Celtic to the Blanchflower Stadium as the sides shared the four goals scored while Bangor travelled to Lisburn Rangers, losing 2-1, and Portstewart produced a scoreless draw with the visit of Killymoon Rangers to the seaside.
