WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP: GAMEWEEK 5 PREVIEW

17 May 2022
football

The Danske Bank Women’s Premiership continues this evening with games at Solitude, Seaview, Melvin Sports Complex and the Brandywell.

The action gets underway at 7.45pm, with the exception of Crusaders Strikers v Lisburn Ladies which gets underway at 8pm.

Cliftonville Ladies v Mid Ulster Ladies, Solitude
Mid Ulster won their first point of the campaign last time out at home to Derry City but were denied the victory by a last-gasp Leah McGonagle equaliser.

They will find it must tougher this week as they travel to in-form Cliftonville, who have bagged 19 goals and conceded just once in their opening four league matches – winning each of them.

This will be the first ever meeting between the sides in the top-flight.

Derry City Women v Linfield Ladies, Brandywell
The Candystripes are unbeaten in their last two outings while Linfield have lost just once this campaign but the visitors will be favourites for this encounter.

The Blues have won all previous 15 meetings between the two sides by an aggregate scoreline of 92-4, but Derry scored in all four meetings between the two last campaign.

Expect another high-scoring encounter here.

Sion Swifts Ladies v Glentoran Women, Melvin Sports Complex
This is a big test of Glentoran’s title credentials – they lost their last trip to Melvin 2-1 last season and have lost three of their previous four games at the ground.

The Glens have made a strong start to the campaign with four wins from four, bagging 19 goals and conceding just once, but Sion are also in strong form – picking up seven points from their last three games.

Crusaders Strikers v Lisburn Ladies, Seaview (8pm)
This will be the first ever Danske Women’s Premiership meeting between these two teams – who are both looking for more points.

Lisburn fell to a five-goal reverse defeat against Cliftonville last time out – having earned their first top-flight point the previous week against Derry – while Crusaders are without a win since the opening day.

The home side have scored just five goals in their opening four league games with Lisburn finding the net just once, so this may not be the highest scoring encounter of the matchday.
