Goalmouth action from Iveagh Park as Queen's University defeated Rathfriland Rangers

The Playr-Fit Premier Intermediate League roared into life this weekend with an eye watering 36 goals being banged home in the opening round of fixtures.

Limavady United led the way with a remarkable nine-goal haul against Banbridge Town at The Showgrounds.

The Roesiders even fell behind early on when Conor Downey found the net for the visitors within five minutes but two goals soon after from Ian Parkhill – one of four he scored on the day - set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.

Joe McCready went on to hit a couple before the break, alongside Parkhill’s hat-trick goal and a Lewis Tosh strike. Parkhill then bagged his fourth early in the second half, with Tosh doubling up and John Butcher completing the scoring late on.

Armagh City and Tobermore United hit seven goals between them in what proved to be a second half to remember at Holm Park.

Given what was to follow, it was somehow scoreless at the break but that all changed when Marc McConnell and Declan Martin traded goals before the hour.

The floodgates well and truly opened after that. Ciaran McKeever edged United in front on 71 minutes, with Conor Mullen levelling with less than a quarter-of-an-hour to go.

Jack Clarke fired the Eagles back in front on 87 minutes, but Daniel Barfoot hit back for Tobermore sixty seconds after that! The game was finally settled deep into stoppage time thanks to Bradley Okaidja’s winner for Shea Campbell’s side.

There was no fairytale start for NIFL new boys Rathfriland Rangers after they crashed to a 5-1 defeat at home to Queen’s University.

Lorcan McIlroy fired the Students in front early on only for Jack Chambers to level for Rangers from the spot after a quarter-of-an-hour.

Queen’s moved back in front through Mikey Withers early in the second half before extending their lead later in the game. Stewart Nixon then added a fourth before, in the dying moments, Johnny Mairs completed the scoring.

Dollingstown stormed back from a goal down to get the better of PSNI with four second half goals at The Dub.

Ryan Worthington struck early in the game to give the home side the half-time advantage before two Jonathan Ewart strikes tipped the balance in favour of the Dollybirds. Stephen Flanagan added a third late on, with Callum McGibbon wrapping the scoring up after that.

Three goals late in the first half helped Warrenpoint Town sweep past Moyola Park at the Coleraine Showgrounds.

Steven Ball handed Barry Gray’s side the advantage on 39 minutes, Jamie O’Flaherty added a second moments later and Jim O’Hanlon hit the third from the spot.

And Ballymacash Rangers also hit three as they defeated Lisburn Distillery at Ballyskeagh.

Ryan McNickle had handed the Whites the advantage after half-an-hour, but Benny Igiehon levelled for Rangers before the break.

Igiehon struck again to edge Cash in front early in the second half with Jack Smith settling it in added time.

Meanwhile, at Mullaghacall, a Luke Bradley 50th minute winner proved enough for Portstewart to defeat newly promoted Coagh United.
