Hearts were racing on Valentine’s Day following another gripping round of Danske Bank Premiership action.

Larne, Cliftonville, Coleraine, Glentoran and Carrick Rangers all secured victories while there was late drama at Mourneview Park.

Larne remain top of the pile on goal difference following a 3-0 victory away to Dungannon Swifts.

Scoreless at the break, Paul O’Neill opened the scoring a couple of minutes after the interval from the spot before, on 64 minutes, Joe Thomson doubled Larne’s lead from close range after Declan Dunne had parried a Shea Gordon effort into his path. Andy Ryan then completed the scoring with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Cliftonville also hit three goals without reply past Portadown.

Ronan Hale kicked the scoring off at Solitude after 18 minutes with a tremendous curling finish into the far corner. Jonny Addis doubled the home advantage eight minutes after the break with a powerful finish from Jamie McDonagh’s corner before Hale doubled his tally on the hour with an overhead kick!

Much attention was focused on the BetMcLean Oval as Glentoran hosted derby rivals Linfield – and ran out three-goal winners.

Bobby Burns scored twice for Rodney McAree’s side. He broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark with a spectacular rifled finish from around 25 yards before wrapping the scoring up on 61 minutes from inside the area. Aidan Wilson had previously doubled Glentoran’s advantage early in the second half when he rose highest to meet a Burns cross from the right.

Coleraine raced into an early lead as they hosted Newry City but, in the end, had to hold on to secure the points. Matthew Shevlin grabbed the only goal of the game on ten minutes with a simple finish in front of goal.

Crusaders bagged a stoppage time leveller to secure a point from their visit to Mourneview Park to take on Glenavon.

Matthew Fitzpatrick edged the Lurgan Blues in front early in the second half, with Paul Heatley equalising for the Crues on 69 minutes. Jamie Doran restored Glenavon’s lead five minutes after that but Philip Lowry popped up in the 92nd minute with a strong strike from the edge of the box!

Meanwhile, at the Loughview Leisure Arena, Carrick Rangers drew level with Ballymena United in the battle for seventh place thanks to a Nedas Maciulaitis 28th minute effort to hand Stuart King’s side victory over the Sky Blues.
