Cliftonville made it three wins from three outings thanks to a one-goal defeat of Glentoran at Solitude.
But it was the Glens that got off to the better start, almost twice going in front inside the opening ten minutes.
Jay Donnelly flicked a header onto the crossbar from a corner as early as the second minute before, not long after that, Ruaidhrí Donnelly fired wide after receiving a Hrvoje Plum cross from the right.
Cliftonville responded with a Levi Ives effort which he could only send straight at Aaron McCarey but the Glens looked the more likely to find a way through when first Plum tested Declan Dunne from a free-kick and then Shay McCartan beat a couple of defenders only to see the home keeper make another stop.
After the break Jamie McDonagh will feel he could have opened the scoring for Cliftonville but could only fizz the ball the wrong side of the left post with Gormley then being denied by McCarey moments later.
At the other end Robbie McDaid just failed to open the scoring with a touch from another Plum ball but Jamie Harney did well to block the effort.
Gormley was then kept out by former Reds keeper McCarey on 69 minutes but what proved to be the match winner arrived just a minute after that when a McDonagh shot was pushed out only as far as Ryan Curran who made no mistake in finishing into the empty net from around 12 yards.
