Sion Swifts scores (L-R) Amy Boyle Carr, Claragh Connor and Tasmin McCarter

Sion Swifts Ladies closed the gap on Crusaders Strikers to just one point with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the north Belfast side at Melvin Park.

Crusaders started the game strongly, with Danielle McDowell hitting the crossbar in the opening ten minutes as Sion struggled to find their feet.

With 15 minutes played Ally Canning played a pinpoint ball over the top to Amy Boyle Carr who latched on the end of it, taking it around Kirsty McCaughtry and slotting it home to give Sion the lead.

Sion then began to enjoy possession and were awarded a free kick outside the box which Claragh Connor sent soaring into the top left hand corner leaving McCaughtry with no chance.

With 11 minutes to the interval Sion's third goal came from a short corner where Kendra McMullan and Boyle Carr worked a ball into the back post where Tazmin McCarter headed home.

Crusaders found their way back into the game in the second half and Julie Nelson grabbed one back from a header in the box beating Molly Meehan in the Sion goal.

Both teams battled it out over the next twenty minutes before a free kick from Connor was volleyed home by McCarter at the back post to increase Sion's lead.

Crusaders attacked again from the centre and a super save from Meehan wasn’t enough to keep the speedy Courtney Moore from getting a late goal for the away side.
