A goal either side of the break helped Warrenpoint Town defeat Ballymena United at Milltown in this opening game of the season.
The Sky Blues, playing in their recently launched white away kit, opened the scoring with just over a minute on the clock when Paul McElroy converted from the spot after referee Tony Clarke adjudged he had been impeded by 'Point skipper Fra McCaffrey.
Ballymena bossed the first half as play progressed with McElroy coming close just after the half-hour mark only to fire just off target.
Warrenpoint had an opening through Greg Moorhouse but United threatened through McElroy again and new signing Dan Bramall.
But matters were levelled three minutes before the break when 'Point's Kealan Dillon saw his 25-yard effort take a deflection onto the crossbar and rebound off United keeper Jordan Williamson into the net.
Barry Gray's men then moved in front almost immediately into the second half. Ballymena's Douglas Wilson was dismissed after bringing down Luke Wade Slater in the box with Dillon stepping up to convert the subsequent spot-kick.
The remainder of the game was a largely uninspiring affair with the ten men failing to make any headway in pursuit of the equaliser whilst Warrenpoint comfortably dealt with what whatever was thrown their way.
